Active Wellbeing Fitness

Aqua Fit

Lively water-based class delivering high impact fitness with low impact moves.

Aqua HITT

Water-based high intensity interval workout. Delivering high impact fitness followed with brief periods of recovery.

Barre

Taking movements from a ballet class and incorporating then into an exercise class. This class will make you feel light on your feet, taller and longer. Strengthening your thighs and core whilst gaining a longer and leaner physique.

Beginner yoga

This is best for beginners because of its slower pace. Balance your mind and body through physical postures, breath control, relaxation, and meditation.

Body Conditioning

Works major and minor muscle groups to tone and carve out a sleek physique.

Boot camp

Outdoor high intensity circuit workout with brief periods of recovery. This class involves a variety of exercises and works your entire body.

Cardio dance

High energy and upbeat dance routines with elements of Latin, rock and roll and jive.

Circuit Training

Challenging mix of cardiovascular and resistance exercises to give a great full-body workout.

Dance Fit

A feel good, high energy class incorporating aerobic style moves into a dance routine all set to high energy music.

Gentle Pilates

A form of low-impact exercise that aims to strengthen muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility. Focus on stretching and strengthening the back, waist, shoulders, hips and legs with an all over body workout.

Glorious Glutes

Strong glutes are critical for jumping, running and moving laterally. Tone and sculpt your derriere using resistance moves.

Group Cycling

Fast paces and fun workout with pumping music. Tones and burns calories with specially designed exercise bikes.

HardCORE

A great class to work your core. This session works your abs, back, hips and glutes helping to keep you strong and lean. A mixture of floor standing exercises incorporating balance and focusing on good posture.

Hatha yoga

This class will involve a set of physical postures (yoga poses) and breathing techniques, practised more slowly and with more static posture holds than perhaps a Vinyasa yoga class. Hatha yoga is less focussed on the flow of poses and more focussed on achieving the right posture with each pose.

Hatha yoga flow

This class emphasizes and focuses on the flow from one pose to the next. Flow is a vigorous class where the movements are connected to each other in a flowing manner and linking movement with the breath is a primary focus.

HIIT class

High-intensity interval training workouts involve exerting your maximum energy during short periods of time. HITT workouts require bursts of high-intensity strength and cardio exercises followed by brief periods of recovery.

HIIT Step

A new and innovative HIIT exercise class using only bodyweight and a step. Using the principles of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). This class is choreographed to bespoke soundtracks.

Kettlebells

Get to grips with kettlebells and master their weight and technique. Build long lean muscles, improve strength, and power whilst elevating your heart rate to burn those calories.

Kinesis

Kinesis is a small group training, resistance-based workout which gets your entire body moving.

Legs, Bums and Tums

Strengthen and tone those bits we love to hate. Squat, lunge and crunch your way to a strong, defined lower.

Pilates

Slow strong movements improve flexibility, build strength and develop control. Achieve a strong core and improve coordination and balance.

Pole

Pole dancing is a full-body workout. It is resistance training and cardio in one. This class will work the whole body, improving muscle tone, flexibility, coordination, posture as well as upper body and core strength.

Step Aerobics

Stepping up to an elevated studio step with easy-to-follow dance routines. Tones and conditions the lower body.

Stretch

A good stretch technique is an important part of any fitness regime. Increase your range of movement, improve alignment, and relive muscular tension.

Skill X

Set your heart racing with the most technologically advanced performance-orientated, group training experience possible. This offers a balanced training format designed to supercharge your power, agility, speed and stamina.

Skill x endurance

This class is set up in a circuit-based style and includes doing exercises for a longer duration of time, working into the anaerobic threshold.

Skill x core

This class involves lots of core fundamental skills and exercises in a group training studio.

Swim fit

This swimming class provides a mixture of different routines, strokes, speeds, and lengths to encourage a more varied and challenging workout that traditional lane-swimming.

Vinyasa yoga

This class incorporates a variety of poses, in which you move from one pose directly into the next. Engaging and strengthening your core muscles. Moving through a complicated sequence using your own body weight to build core strength and will improve stability, power and balance.

Zumba

High energy dance-based class using elements of salsa, Latin, samba and tango steps.

What is Exercise on prescription?

If you’re recovering from an illness or injury, or just want to improve overall health, you could receive exercise on prescription from your GP or other health professional.

The scheme lets your GP write you a prescription for a personalised 12-week exercise programme at Bridport Leisure Centre. You’ll receive  a private consultation with one of our qualified instructors, and together you’ll devise an exercise programme to help with recovery, or developing a more active lifestyle.

You’ll then have the guidance and support of your instructor as you progress through your personal exercise programme.

Exercise on prescription isn’t free but you do receive discounted rates across all our facilities including the fitness suite (including a half price induction), swimming, and all Active Wellbeing classes.


Exercise on prescription buddy scheme

Having a friend to share your exercise on prescription experience with can make all the difference. Commitment, encouragement and some healthy competition make exercising more fun for everyone.

If you have received exercise on prescription, you can nominate a friend or relative as your buddy, who will also benefit from exercise on prescription discounts.

Junior Squash

At Bridport junior squash club, children learn to master the basics before developing more advanced skills such as tactics, techniques and rules of the game. 

Squash is a fun and fast-paced, indoor racket activity that combines fitness with mental agility.

Session times:

Thursday:  5pm – 6pm 

Prices and booking:

Junior squash club runs for 50 weeks of the year with a 2-week break over Christmas. Fees are payable by direct debit at £20 per month.

Trampolining

Trampolining lessons at Bridport Leisure Centre are part of our Rebound Gymnastics Club. Under the guidance of our qualified staff, we offer trampoline lessons for children aged 5 to 15 years of age.

Following the British Gymnastics Trampoline Award Scheme, we coach children of all abilities, covering everything from the basic trampoline skills, to advanced technical moves and routines.

Classes take place in the main hall and are structured into three different groups based on ability: beginners, intermediate and advanced.

Age: 5 – 15 yrs

Session times:

Thursdays: 4:30pm – 6:30pm*

Saturdays: 9:30am – 11:30am*

*sessions are at 4:30pm, 5:30pm, 9:30am and 10:30am depending on child’s level and ability

All courses run for 50 weeks of the year with a 2-week break over Christmas. Fees are payable by direct debit at £27.50 per month

Trampolining £27.50 per month (Direct Debit)

When enquiring about any Children’s Course you will be asked to fill out an enquiry form. This will then be passed onto the Activity Programme Manager who will be in contact to discuss class options with you. Once the class is chosen you just need to set up payment and you’re ready to go!

On the day:
• Free parking is available in our car park. At busy times please also use the top & far car parks.
• Please arrive in time for your child to change and be ready for the start of the class
• All long hair must be tied up, out of the way.
• Socks must be worn for all Trampolining lessons.
• Please wear a well fitting T-shirt or long sleeved top, no vest tops please.
• Jogging bottoms preferred, no belts/zips/buttons. No Jeans or combat trousers to be worn.
• Please remember to bring a water bottle, this can be refilled at reception as required. Squash is fine but energy drinks and fizzy drinks are not appropriate.
• Please ensure all children have been to the toilet before their lesson starts.
• Please supervise your children until their lesson starts.
• Parents are welcome to spectate upstairs in the café area next to the pool.

Missing a lesson:
Our lessons run for 50 weeks of the year including throughout all school holidays. We have a 2 week break over Christmas
which you will be notified of in advance. If for any reason you are unable to attend a lesson please phone and leave a message
on 01308 427464.

Cool off Fitness Suite Session:
Fancy burning a few calories whilst your child is enjoying their lesson? Parents are entitled to HALF PRICE Fitness
Suite entry whilst their child is attending their activity. Just ask at reception or phone 01308 427464 to pre book.

Free Swimming:
All children’s courses members are entitled to FREE evening & weekend swimming. Booking is required as
spaces are limited and accompanying family members will still need to pay their usual entry fee.

If a charge is applied to your account for any of the reasons above, you will need to pay the charge before any further bookings can be made. Charges can be paid via the online booking portal or at reception.

Small-Group Training classes are the perfect happy medium between personal training and a fitness class – with extra emphasis on specific training goals. Water polo is a fast-paced and exhilarating water sport for children and adults at Bridport Leisure Centre. Under the expert guidance of our coaches, this fun team game develops water confidence, builds fitness and teaches new skills.

Adult Swimming Lessons

Our swimming lessons for adults in Bridport introduce new swimmers to the water and overtime work on stroke technique and stamina.

Adult swimming lessons are delivered in small groups according to ability and take place on Thursdays from 10am until 11am.

Adult Fitness Swimming (Swimfit):

Adult fitness swimming sessions take place on Tuesdays from 7.30pm – 8.30pm and Thursdays 6pm – 7pm. These are coach-led sessions, designed for the serious swimmer who wants to improve their stamina and stroke technique. Not suitable for beginners.

Cards ranging from 10 to 120 lengths are available from the poolside board. The cards offer goals and ways to work on technique during your swim sessions. You chart your progress as you get fitter, faster and stronger.

You can also log your sessions on the Swimfit website, set new challenges and watch demonstrations to help improve your stroke.

Five-a-side football at Bridport Leisure Centre provides a full cardio workout in a fun and sociable format. The fast pace and competitive edge build stamina, strength and agility, while teamwork and plenty of laughs make it a life-affirming way to bust stress and stay active.

Our indoor five-a-side football pitch is the main sports hall. Centre staff set up the pitch, including goals. Players must provide their own football and team bibs.

What to wear: please wear suitable footwear such as astroturf football trainers. Studs or blades are not permitted. Please also bring shin pads, goalkeeper gloves, coloured bibs, and a football. All players should bring water to keep hydrated during the session.

Short tennis is a specially adapted version of tennis that’s great for children and beginners of all ages. With shorter courts and a softer ball, it lets players develop at their own pace. As they progress and gain confidence, the court and racket size can increase, making the game faster.

Adult gym inductions at Bridport Leisure Centre are a thorough, three-stage process, ensuring you’re confident and ready to go when you start using the fitness suite.

Stages 1 and 2: Health assessment, wellness key demo, cardiovascular and resistance equipment familiarisation. 60 minutes per session.

Stage 3: Learn about your personal goals and design a programme to help you reach them quickly and effectively. One-to-one session, 30 minutes.


Juniors (10-15 years)

Junior inductions introduce children to the cardiovascular, abdominal, and other non-weight bearing equipment. 60 minutes.


What to wear: light, breathable clothing or sportswear, along with comfortable trainers, for stability and support. Bring plenty of water to keep hydrated, and a small towel for staying dry. You’ll also need a wellness key (can be purchased or hired from reception) and £1 for the lockers, if you want to rent one.

Discovery Ducklings

A drop-in swimming classes for babies 0-18 months and toddlers 18-mths to 3yrs.

Wonderful sessions for parent/carer and child, as you discover the joys of being in the water together through fun songs and games, helping your baby develop vital water confidence along the way.

Ducklings 1 and 2 – Swimming lessons for kids from 3 to 5 years.

The next step on from Discovery Ducklings, our swimming class for babies and children under 3yrs.

Ducklings promotes increased independence and water confidence, helping to prepare for Stage 1 of Bridport Swim School.

Bridport Swim School provides swimming lessons for children in Bridport. It runs throughout the year from Mondays to Saturdays (with a 2-week break at Christmas). Lessons are delivered by our team of qualified, expert swim instructors.

We follow the award-winning SWIM ENGLAND National Plan for teaching swimming. This well-structured and progressive scheme is constantly reviewed in line with good practise guidelines and feedback, encouraging continuous learning and a love of swimming. In addition, Bridport Swim School students (under 16) benefit from FREE swimming on weekends and school holidays.


Swim School Stages 1 – 7

Bridport Swim School

The Learn to Swim Framework is is the most widely known nationwide, and is the backbone of swimming lessons for primary school-aged children.  It aims to develop confident and competent swimmers through fun and enjoyment, and Learn to Swim Stages 1-7 are at the heart of the Bridport Swim School.

In small classes of no larger than 10:1, the qualified swim instructors guide children through criteria aimed to improve their confidence and technique, whilst having fun with friends.

Children can join the swim school at any age or stage; our instructors will assess their ability and place them in the stage they are best suited to.

Each of the seven stages of the Learn to Swim Framework has a clear set of targets for the pupil to meet, with various awards given as they progress through the levels.


ROOKIE LIFEGUARD COURSE

If you are looking for a programme to get your children more confident in and around water, look no further than the #BeaRookieLifeguard Programme.

The Royal Life Saving Society’s Rookie Lifeguard programme gives your child the skills they need to be confident in the pool or the sea – which means peace of mind for you.
With colourful materials and fun, varied activities, the Rookie Lifeguard scheme teaches children how to swim and enjoy the water safely, whether in shallow or deeper water.

As your child progresses through the programme they will achieve many awards from Bronze stage 1 through to Gold stage 3. As they work through the stages, the criteria will get tougher, so they will increase their knowledge and perform more skills. Certificates are awarded at each stage.

The awards teach Rookies:
• Survival and self- rescue
• Simulated emergency response
• Sport and fitness

Each child will receive a logbook to log their progress through each stage.
The course runs for 50 weeks of the year with a 2-week break over Christmas.
Fees are payable by direct debit at £30 per month.

The Rookie Lifeguard programme is for children aged 7 to 14 years.
There is a maximum of 12 children per class.

Swim School Stage 8 – 10

The Aquatic Skills Framework (Learn to Swim Stages 8-10) are about building sport-specific skills to encourage a focus on aquatic sports.

At these levels, swimmers are encouraged to build sport-specific skills. Competitive swimming, water polo, synchronised swimming, diving and rookie lifeguard training are all available.

If you’re looking for private swimming lessons in Bridport, the leisure centre has fully qualified instructors who can help children with all aspects of swimming, from learning the basics to improving technique.

There’s a wide choice of fitness classes at Bridport Leisure Centre. Our busy timetable features the very latest in contemporary classes such as pole, cardio dance and STOTT Pilates, alongside classic fitness favourites such as step aerobics and boxercise. Most classes are set to music, making them a fun and sociable way to get active.

All classes are led by our qualified instructors and take place in our specially-designed, air-conditioned studios. The timetable runs from 7am through to 9.15pm, seven days a week, so there’s always a class time to suit you.
